Design by Peter Query

This puzzle is a combination between the Wooden knot and the Chinese cage puzzle. As in the Wooden knot puzzle the Knot box uses diagonal connections between the pieces. In fact this puzzle is made by eight wooden knots glued together. The same has been done in the Chinese cage puzzle which is made from eight Chinese cross puzzles. The puzzle is embellish by using two different types of wood and the pieces are cut in such a way they stagger.

The puzzle is made of 24 pieces: twelve of a light type of wood and twelve of a darker type. The pieces are shown in the diagram below. The A- and B-pieces has to be duplicated six times. All pieces have equal length, but the distance between the end of the piece and the first notch may vary. In one piece there is a maximum of four notches in a row (for example in piece A and B). If you use wood with a diameter of 2 cm, the distance to the first notch in piece A and B is 3 cm and on the other side (in the diagram the upper side) 4,5 cm. In the remaining pieces, the distance to the first notch (on the upper side) is 1,5 cm and 6,0 cm on the other side. You can see this particular in the pieces 3, 6 and 12. You can also chose to make all ends of equal length. Than the puzzle will fit in a cube.

When the puzzle is constructed correctly you can use it as a box and place things in the center of the puzzle. The solution of this puzzle can be find on this website.
